My name it Hannah Peterson. I am a mom, wife, daughter, sister, friend, licensed clinical social worker, and a pediatric brain cancer survivor. At the age of 17 years old, I was diagnosed with an inoperable malignant germ cell tumor in the center of my brain. It was a rough year, to say the least, for my family and me. Mostly, it was incredibly lonely. In the summer of 2008, I attended Camp Hope for my first and last year as a camper. It absolutely changed my life forever. Meeting peers who understood my journey helped me in ways I could never truly describe. Camp Hope gave me a purpose. It served as a yearly recharge for me, as a young woman who would return each year as a volunteer. Years into my volunteership, I was interested in a grassroots team to help create Camp Sibsational. I was a part of the original Camp Sibsational Committee and enjoyed helping plan the phenomenal camp with my dear friends. I had the chance to return to Camp Hope 2025 this year, and it was just like returning home! Kymel will always be near and dear to my heart. It’s where I feel most inspired and where I find hope.
